Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Douglas A. Weddleton

My condolences go out to the family of this fallen brother. May you find peace knowing that he was a hero at the time of his death. Although he gave his life that morning, he may have saved someone elses. Rest in peace my brother with the lord and St. Michael, I know you will be assisting them from up above watching over your brother and sister officers that remain.

Officer Christopher Peckham
Massachusetts Dept. Of Correction

My simple prayer is that his family, both at work and home, is granted the peace that surpasses all understanding. Both families...please rely on each other as you will be each other's greatest strength.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9)

A policeman was killed last night

A policeman was killed last night.
He died while protecting your rights.
His creed was to protect and serve.
This fate he didn't deserve.

A mom and dad have lost a son.
So many other jobs he could've done.
His wife and kids are left alone.
Their daddy won't be coming home.

His fellow officers are hurt so deep.
For a fallen brother they weep.
The morning paper will print a story.
About a policeman who died in glory.

The flags will fly at half mast.
Politicians and citizens will seem sad.
The funeral is tomorrow at noon.
It will all be over very soon.

By next week they will have forgot.
That a policeman was killed last night.

For Sergeant Doug Weddleton:

Our duty as a trooper on patrol is fraught with difficult tasks, and intermingled with routine duties that are essential to keeping the motoring public, and others, safe. More often than not, when a tragedy occurs that claims the life of patrol trooper, it is sudden and without warning. Almost always, it is a trooper making an attempt to do what so many of us have done over and again. Most of us are alive more by luck than skill. We can take credit for very little when we survive and others do not. Fate is accountable to no one. It is our lot.

We regret learning of the death of Doug. He gave his life in the defense of others and while doing his sworn duty. He stands now as one among many who laid down his life rather than swerve from the path of duty. No honor can be higher. No recognition can be greater.

We pray for his family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the times that lie ahead.

As a brother trooper, I am indeed proud to render Sergeant Doug Weddleton a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

Sgt. Weddleton, all of us in the law enforcement family are at a loss. Those who know and love you best are not far from our hearts and are in our prayers. This was tragic in the most literal sense of the word.

God Bless and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother, you have truly earned that rest.

God will look out for your family, though I would guess you'll never be far from them.
