Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Travis Paul Murphy

My condolences go out to Travis and his family. As a Firefighter, I feel the loss of a man who loved his job. As a family man I feel the loss his wife and children have suffered.I watched the television segment with his squad mates. I felt their loss also.I have been to too many funerals for people that passed before their time.
Again my best to all.

The the family, friends and co-workers of Travis, I offer my sincerest condolences to all of you.

With more than 19 years on the job I have become certain of one thing and that is that the fight against darkness and evil is one that always must be waged. Travis understood that as well. Evil and cowardice will never win, so long as valiant and courageous people like Travis are willing to be peacemakers in a world where peace is a fleeting thing.

Godspeed Travis...

thank you SIR for your service, me and my family are praying for you and yours. I cant stop thinkig of you and your little kids. I was shot in july of 07 and as I was laying on the ground wondering if the lights were going to go out. All I could think of was my wife and my two little girls. This brings back alot of pain for me. So I guess what I want to say is, Thank you for being a policeman.

Ofc Travis P. Murphy, its not how you died that made you a hero, but how you lived. I know you will watch over your precious babies and wife from the golden streets.
To the family, there are no words to ease your pain from this horrible nightmare that you are living. My prayers are with you in the days to come. Your babies will always know what a hero their father was.

Travis, tonight I went to the place where you took your last steps as a police officer. The small memorial doesn't seem big enough to convey the importance of what happened there. I didn't know you, but an officer on my squad was in your academy class. I could see what a good man you were in the reaction of that officer, when I told him you didn't make it. When police officers are murdered, we sometimes remember them as better people than they really were. It seems that in your case that is not necessary. By all accounts, you really were one of the great ones. A dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, officer. That makes your loss all the more painful and tragic. Travis, I have visited too many sites where Phoenix Police officers, my friends, took their last steps. I have thought of them and honored their memory, honored the lives they lived, wondered how I can help to prevent this from happening again. I am tired of it. Despite the rawness of the hurt that all of us feel now, in a few days we will begin to patch it up. After a few months or a year, the scar tissue will have formed. We will move on, even those closest to you will move on. We will feel guilty for moving on, even though we know you wouldn't want us to suffer. Know this: after your loss we will never be the same. Having worked with you, loved you, shared our lives with you, none of us whose lives you touched will ever be the same.

For Police Officer Travis P. Murphy:

The law officer on patrol is the front line soldier-of-the-law. Each officer that patrols is the walking target for those whose desire is to react violently with little or no warning. Despite this truism, the patrol officer proceeds to each assignment as a matter of duty, more than a matter of dread or fear. We don't ask for the public's sympathy or support more than we simply ask for fairness and understanding. Beyond that, we rely most upon our brothers and sisters who wear a badge. Each time a law officer is slain the impact of the tragedy and loss is felt by us all. Each of us then, if not before, must decide what will be our response.

We pray for Travis' family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days to come.

I am proud to render Officer Travis Murphy a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police
