Reflections for Police Officer Travis Paul Murphy

Rest In Peace Brother.

Officer R. Bellamy
San Bernardino PD

Last week I was awoke with the news that we lost another brave Phoenix Police Officer. There are no words that can express the sorrow felt. Just no that we will do everything we can to help your wife and kids. Rest in peace Travis. Thank you for your service.

An Angel in the sky must leave his place of rest,
Gently tucking his wings beneath his armored vest.
For Duty has called, there is much work to do
Little did he know, this one is dressed in blue.

Arriving on the scene, he knows just what to say,
"Follow me, fallen brother, I'll show you the way."
"Your duty has ended, your work is now through."
"Come hang your hat beside mine, I'm a cop, too."

Rest in Peace

Officer Murphy,
I did not know you or your family, but I can say that when I read about what happened to you,I started to cry and said a prayer for you and your family.I have tried to put myself in officers shoes to see how they feel.I know I could never completely understand, but I hope to make a difference for any officer that I meet.I know their jobs are hard and extremely lonely.I was once told by an officer "50% of the people love me and 50% hate me."I look up to every officer because they deserve love and respect for what they do for their communities.Even though I did not know Officer Murphy,I want his family to know that I will keep him and his family in my prayers every day.I also want them to know that he did make a difference! What happened to Officer Murphy really burdened me and I am going to try to be as good of a citizen as I can be to honor Officer Murphy's sacrifice and remind people that these officers are here to keep us safe.Let's do the same for them.God bless you Officer Murphy!

The officer stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, officer,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On this memorial day, 5 days after you were murdered for doing your job, I can't help but to continually ask the question "why?" Why did a young man have to lose his life? Why did two young children have to lose their father? Why did a wife have to lose her husband? Why did a mom and dad have to lose a son? And why did we, your police family, have to lose a colleague and friend? I didn't know you well Travis, but I know people who did. And, as you know, our reputation is all we have as police officers. Your reputation, by all accounts, was that you were a stellar friend, father, and cop. Your legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace.
