Tom,
Thank you for the hug you gave me on the capitol lawn during Police Week in D.C. Thanks for all of the memories while you were in the acadmey and when you came back after your first tour. You learned that role playing was not as easy as it looked, and we had the best time. I am so sorry you had to leave us and your family, but God has his plans and there is nothing we can do about them. You know that we will take care of your family like they were our own. Im sure all of your brothers in blue met you at heavens gate to welcome another hero of ours. You are a hero of mine and someday we will cross paths again in heaven, and I will be waiting for another hug from you. Thank you Tom for all that you were and all that you gave.

This is truly heartbreaking. This incredible officer and incredible veteran of our country just gets back from honoring those officers who were killed in the line of duty, his brothers and sisters, just to come home and have this happen. Our most sincere prayers go out to his father, another courageous man, and the rest of Officer Wortham's family and fellow officers. Thank you, Officer Wortham, for your incredibly selfless, brave and courageous service to your community and to our nation.

A thankful American & police survivor

I just read about this tragedy. You were a fine officer taken down in what can only be described as the most tragic and yet ironic way, sharing the experience with others of the events of police week honoring those who have fallen, only to be gunned down while doing so. I hope that justice is served like no other has seen before. May you rest in peace, your watch is over now. God speed.

Officer Wortham IV you are a true hero. Not only did you serve your country in the military, but you also directly served the community you lived in. My prayers go out to your family, friends and co-workers. Your father had to witness his son being taken from him and I cannot even imagine that. Thanks to him you can now rest in peace. I pray that he can find peace someday also.

Ofc. Wortham is a true hero having served his country as a soldier and a police officer. How brave and meaningful a life, a life not lived in vain, a life honored at the altar of sacrifice. Where there is evil, there are people like Thomas willing to get involved and make a difference. We grieve at Chicago PD's loss and we grieve with his family as they suffer so tragic a personal loss. God bless you all...let freedom ring.
