To the Family of Officer Mahaffey:

I am the child of a fallen California Highway Patrol Officer. My father is Richard D. Duvall (also on this website) In 1976, we moved to Conyers, GA. (Clubhouse Way). I graduated from Rockdale High. I honor this brave officer and truly understand the sacrifice his wife and young children have made. You are not alone. Hero's have a special place in heaven. My daddy is also there.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. There is no reason for this and I hate that this happened to another uniformed officer. You all put your lives on the line to keep everyone safe and then someone just has to step in and take them away from the ones that love them! Makes me sick.

Please just know we are all praying for the family and loved ones in North Ga

I have worked with Brian in all aspects of his Law Enforcement. He was a superior officer and a great friend. He was always willing to help anyone, anytime and anywhere regardless of what the task involved he was there. He will be sorely missed by everyone who's life he has touched in not only his personal life but during his Law Enforcement Career.

Our prayers go out to his wife, children and other family members along with all of his fellow Officers.

Brian you were a great guy and a great officer. You were always sticking up for the little man when we were in school. I will always remember the wreck with the drunk i ran up on near my house only one car in which you responded to and just talking to you on several different occasions even when you came to my house on routine calls to help me out. I thank you for all you have done and all you gave to Rockdale County. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. You will be deeply missed. EOW 05-08-2010 this will be a day i will never forget.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
