Joe
A day does not pass without me thinking about you or talking about you. Over all the years that we were friends, all the hunting trips and times working on projects together so many memories come flooding foreward.

Yes you were a great sergeant to work for and with. You approarch to Law Enforcment was a combination of Andy Griffith, your favortie T.V. cop, and Barny Miller. We were never lacking for fun, working or not, you were able to bring a smile to all of us.

Many say you were a hero because of your service to the community, the police, fire and medic work. I find that you were a hero because of your family and friends. When no one else would show up to help move, you were there sick and working in the rain. When the world was not right you some how would knew when to call. Most of all you were a hero because of the queen and the girls. You were always there for them. They were first and foremost in your heart. You passed along your sense of hummor to them. Your love for your Wife, queen, and the girls is unmatched in this day and age many should take note of this and follow your example.

I have asked God several times why you taken from us at this time. I keep coming back to the thought that God gave us free choice in which path we follow in life. Many have choosen the path of evil, as with the man who took your life. However the Lord can use this in ways we do not yet understand to help others and work best for those who know and follow him. This will not take away the pain and questions that the queen and the girls have. I know that you already have the answers and will one day meet us and we will understand. Until that day, Joe find us the best deer stand, fishing spot, hunting expo and shooting range. I listen for a hint of you on every hunting and fishing outing I go on. Your stories are told at the hunting camp and you still bring a smile to our faces even after you have gone home to be with the Lord.

Sgt. Bergeron,

I saw a cruiser door that was painted and dedicated to you at police week 2011 at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. I just wanted to let you know that you are not forgotten. Thank you to you and your family for your sacrifice. I could have only been so lucky to work with a man like you. I hope your family has peace knowing that you are a hero.

I still remember the last time we spoke. I can still remember the sound of your voice as if you were still here. I can't stand looking at your desk anymore. I hate them for what they did. I still can't bring myself to think about it. Thank you for every kindness and for always guiding me. I hope I never let you down.

Hey Joe,
I have tried to leave a reflection countless times before this, but have not been able to find the words.
Each time my thoughts are of the Queen and the girls and nothing I want to say sounds right.
I know you hear me when I talk to you Joe, so I'll leave a message for your girls.

To the Queen and the Girls,
You are the hero's now.
We think of you and speak of you every day at the department.
We miss Joey B. more than words can express.
We miss Joe's laugh, and him giving us shit.
There is a little empty spot in our hearts with Joe gone, but a LARGE FULL SPOT IN OUR HEARTS BECAUSE JOE WAS HERE WITH US.
We love you Ladies.

We pin on the badge, belt on the gun, and go to work knowing someone may try to kill us this day. Why? Bravery…not really, most days are uneventful and pleasant, monetary compensation, not hardly considering the risk, ….insanity, some would say so. The truth is that the mission was tempered into our souls long before we were aware, a duty given, an obligation to protect, to serve, to provide safety, to keep the peace. We were not designed or designated for another purpose. Some have fallen, some will fall, and others will carry on. Blessed are the peace keepers. Rest in Peace Sgt Bergeron God knows the price you and your family have paid

As much as no one ever wants to go to another cops funeral, I wish everyone could have saw how many people came out to see Sgt Bergeron to his final place of rest! Not that one officer's death is worse than anothers, but to hear how Sgt Bergeron was senselessly murdered hit home even more. Thank you Sgt Bergeron for your sacrifice. Thank you for being a role model and a hero to all of us including your nephew who is now an officer because of you. Maplewood Police Department, all of us in the State of Minnesota and around the country morn with you. RIP Joe!
