A policeman died today.
For his family please pray; His precious children and his wife were the other part of his busy life.

He daily risked his own life to serve in a world that is filled with strife.

Nine years ago, I started as a Detective in CID. You were one of the guys that taught me how to be an investigator. I'll never forget all the laughs we have had over the years. Your endless smile and and gentle spirit will be missed by all of us forever. Thank you for all you have done for so many. You are with God and God is with AnnMarie, Hilary, and Kyler. Rodney Holder was truly "an officer and a gentleman" in every sense of that term. He was a devoted husband and doting daddy, and we were blessed to have had the opportunity to know this great man, if only for a while. Our hearts and prayers are with his wife Anne-Marie, with his children and with the Abilene Police Department, for we know his departure from this life is a loss for all who knew him, but especially for those closest to him. May they find the peace that passes understanding, and the certainty that he is Home at last.

Our prayers and sympathy are with the entire Holder family and APD as you face this time of enormous grief. There are no words that will ease your sorrow, just know that there are others who have walked this way and will be there to help.

Rodney Holder was my classmate at Cooper High, and became a great friend and support after his fellow officer and my brother Jeff was killed in the line of duty in 2007. Rodney reached out then with time to listen, time to shed a tear, time to encourage, and time to bring a smile. Rodney was there faithfully for many of the fallen officer memorials we attended, both local and in Washington DC. His legacy is one of being not only an excellent peace officer for the citizens of Abilene and our nation, but a truly great and caring man, fully deserving of the full honor due those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Rest peacefully brother Rodney, and may God surround your family and fellow officers with comfort and strength in the days ahead.

As a fellow City of Abilene employee I had the great pleasure to know Rodney on a limited basis. Rodney always had a kind word for you and was one of the most respectful officers I know. I remember him coming in after his most recent accident and we were all telling him how glad we were that his injuries were minor. All he could talk about was how distraught the elderly man that hit him was. His concern was not for himself but the citizen he served. He loved his job and did it well.

Rodney was loved and respected by all and our City and PD family mourns with his own family.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Rodney’s family during this most difficult of times.

Thank you for years of excellent service to our community.

To the family of officer Holder: All my thoughts and prayers go out to you today. I DO know how you are feeling because 2 years ago I was in your shoes. They are terrible shoes to wear.
Pray to God to help you thru this awful time. Get mad! Cry! Pray! Everything you do will help you get thru this.
Its been 2 years 2 1/2 mo. since my son - Officer Tom Ballman was murdered and I have to pray every day for the strength to get me thru.
Officer Holder is another Hero that gave all to others. May he find all the other Heros who await him now.

Rodney was a selfless man who gave all to family, friends and the city of Abilene TX. I had the pleasure of having Rodney as an assistant coach in baseball a few years back and he taught me alot about character. I looked up to him and always looked forward to riding beside him down Treadaway Blvd. on my way home from work. He will be missed.
