Rodney you will be missed by everyone you have met in your life. Always smiling and shining that bike. Thank you for loving my New Orleans style dressing at thanksgiving and Pattens hot sausage! I always looked forward to sharing that with you. God bless your family and fellow officers. I am so very sorry our city has lost such a wonderful man.

Rodney,

I can still hear your voice, asking me "what's up, whistlebritches". I'd have been fighting most people who said that to me. Every time I think of you, I smile. I just wanted to tell you I appreciate how you lived your life. You were never too busy or too good to help. You did the right thing in the right way. Having you for a friend made me a better man. I miss you, bro.

On Aprill 22,2008 Officer Holder took the time to come and led our son Christopher Shields from the funeral to the cemetery where he too had met with an tragic accident on his bike. We as a family were deeply honored to have him do the honors of leading the procession at the time of our sorrow. I did not get the chance to meet him that day, but everyone I have spoken to since that knew Rodney said they he is a truly great person. So to his family I express my sincerne gratitude and sympathy for our tragic loss. May you be comforted knowing he was loved in the community and all over the world. So, Rodney thank you and may you and my beauitful son ride in peace together up in heaven.

No words are adequate. Abilene lost a outstanding Officer and a hero to many.
Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and his Brothers in Blue.
I am always in awe of the bond, the family ties our law enforcement has when we lose a hero such as Rodney. My son was on the bus Coach Scott mentioned where Officer Holder took the boys to Ft Worth Paschel. I spent those 2 hours pacing and talking to him during the game and he was such an inspiration. Truly a man that if you knew you just felt he was a friend and always had been. He was a mentor to many Officers who loved and respected him and he will be missed.
I know he is with God and dancing with angels.
Job well done Officer Holder... may you rest in peace.

Rodney brought a large amount of morale to the Traffic Division. There was always a smile on his face, and generally a humorous comment to go with it. Being the youngest on the Motors, in both age and tenure, I've had the opportunity to look up to Rodney and the others both professionally and personally. Rodney was the kind of person that I often caught myself wondering what I had to do to be like him in life. I was the last Motor Officer that Rodney was able to train, and I will cherish the memories of our time together forever. T-23, you will be missed dearly and you will always be next to us.
