Reflections for Police Officer David Aaron Haynes

David,

I'm sure that you know that the POS plead guilty today and will be sentenced very soon. I just hope you will be merciful when the two of you meet again. On second thought, no I don't. "Goonies!"

Dave Haynes was one of the best friends anyone could ever ask for. He gave and gave and gave and never asked for anything in return.

I wasn't as good a friend to him as he was to me and I'll live with that regret for the rest of my life.

He only had one cd in his truck most of the time I knew him. I'll never be able to forget Blues Traveler's "Back in the Day" for as long as I live.

I love you Dave, and I'll keep hating zombies for you until I've breathed my last.

David,

I'm sorry that I was not able to attend the dedication ceremony in your honor today. You know what is going on and why I wasn't there. I will stop by the sign tonight and have a cold one for you.

David,

Once again I must ask you to stand beside Mike today. You are a true inspiration to the ranks. "Goonies."

I served with David in the Marines, and was talking with another former marine last night who told me about this incident. Dave was an amazing Marine who’s good spirit and friendship helped make long days in the Marines and in combat survivable. Dave always had something funny to say or cheered you up. I too have now been serving in law enforcement for almost 3 years. In fact I am about to go on shift here in a few. I will keep Dave and his family in my prayers while on patrol tonight and more than likely tell some Marine Corp stories and things about Dave to my partner. The world is a darker place without Dave and he will be missed.

David: It has been a year now since you left us. Time doesn't make it any easier nor does time heal the pain. Please know that you are an inspiration to a lot of people and your dedication to serve is always used as the honorable example of how we all should be. "Goonies!"

David,

Please comfort Mike today on this anniversary of the day he left us. He is in good company with you next to him. When we talked about his sacrifice we had no idea that you would be the one standing next to him first. I miss you! "Goonies."

Dave,

I've been thinking about you a lot lately. I remember some funny stories during our time in the Academy together. I remember during weapons qualifications when you were extremely hung over and puking outside on the range. I think there is even a picture of that. A lot has happened since you've been gone. It hasn't really hit me yet that you are gone. You were proud to be a Marine and an Officer, as you should be. I do look forward to meeting you again one day in Heaven. I know I will. Watch out for us down here, I am constantly thinking that some tragic event could happen to me and I too will be taken away from my family. Please do what you can to protect the rest of us down here and I'm so sorry your young life was ended so soon. You know the guy you were chasing was charged with Murder 2nd, as well as the burglary you caught him committing, and my hope is that he will be sentenced to a long long time in the penetentiary. Man I wish you were still here. Comfort your wife and family in any way you can, I can tell they miss you tremendously. You are a warrior and hero! Thanks for what you did for our Country and City.

Good men must die, but death can not kill their names.

Semper Fi my fellow Marine!

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Haynes. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for David, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember David's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that David's life was about so much more than the way he died. David will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Haynes, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been seven years and a half years but he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

To the family and friends of Officer David Haynes and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when David tragically died.

To Officer Haynes' family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

My son Larry was also a fellow Marine so I also bid David Semper Fi.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service David gave to his community and the citizens of Missouri, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 24, 2010.
