Prayers and thoughts are with his family, as a sister to a retired Akron Police Officer I know how hard it is to sleep at night or even worry in the daytime when your loved one is out there serving his fellow man. I lost my brother to cancer just months after his retirement. The loss you have is unbearable and I pray the lord comforts his family.

It is with great privilege that I salute and bid a great warrior farewell. Your duties down here are over dear brother. Your journey as an Officer of the Law is over and you are leaving behind a legacy of courage, honor, and duty to God, country and family. Thank you for all that you have done and now go on before us, rest in eternal peace and'til that day when we shall be reunited again in the promise of our Lord and Savior with forgivness and eternal life surrounded by the angels that walked with us on our journey on earth. 'til then we will carry on the duties you so honorably filled to the end. God bless your memory.

Had the pleasure of responding to calls with this officer as an EMT in Elyria in 06/07. He was an amazing officer, person, family man and he will be missed. Not only has an Officer from Elyria Police Department been killed, but a member of their community. My wholehearted sympathies go out to his surviving wife, 3 daughters, the Department that will not be the same with out Jimmy's perfection and enlightenment to be around. God has called you home, to protect from above friend. It was a pleasure working with you and we will all miss you dearly.

May the family, fellow officers and friends of Jim Kerstetter find comfort in their grief with the knowledge that the people of Elyria are grateful for the devotion and kindness of Jim. The horror of this will not be forgotten. May all Jim's fellow officers be safe and know that the city appreciates and loves them and keeps them in their prayers.
