I recently came across this disturbing news and it brought me back to 5 years ago when I was told that my brother, who was also a police officer had been shot and killed. When I look at the age of his young children I am reminded of my nephew and nieces and can't help but feel a deep sadness for them and their mother. How tragic that this has to happen to the officers that ARE doing the right thing and trying to help those that need it the most. My prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the Kerstetter family. May God be with you and may the family of the department truly treat you with the utmost respect that you deserve for giving up the one you love in the line of duty.
we truly miss our big brother and will never forget how he has changed so many lives.

For Patrolman James Kerstetter:

Our job takes us to the door of all kinds of criminals; the angry, the enraged, the robbers, the burglars and the perv's. All are to be treated with dignity and respect, though some might hide and slink from window to window waiting to ambush the officer that arrives. It is why only a small per centage of the population seeks law enforcement careers. Many who would like to be law officers simply cannot.

For our brother Jim, a hero who stands tall, the task he would have this day led to another sniveling coward would slay an officer at the door. The culprit apparently chose suicide-by-cop, with additional arriving officers, before he could muster the courage to kill himself.

We pray for Jim's family, friends, co-workers and those who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another when the time is right.

I am proud to render Patrolman James Kerstetter a final salute.

Pennylvania State Police
