Reflections for Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr.

Dear Coroporal J. R. Searcy,

I am sitting here with tears running down my face after reading how you laid down your life in the line of duty. I see your picture with your trusty German Shepherd next to your badge along with your name and rank.
I am in awe of a man like you, protecting others in your community, a family man, husband and father, and just doing the very best that you can.
I just heard about how your legacy is physically being carried on in someone else's life, and I am amazed.
You are the kind of person that America depends on, looks up to, respects. I am an American who is very proud that God gave you to us for awhile. I am a Louisianian who recognizes the tremendous person and police officer that you are.
Your wife, your children, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office and your community must be so extremely proud of you. I live in Orleans Parish, and though I never met you, I am so thankful that you were doing what keeps all the rest of us safe.
Thank you for your valor, Corporal J. R. Searcy....
God Bless You

To the family and friends of Officer J.R. Searcy and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when J.R. tragically died.

To Corporal Searcy's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service J.R. gave to his community and the citizens of Louisana, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 6, 2010.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

For Corporal J.R, Searcy:

The response to an assignment reporting assault or violence is always tense. No amount of preparation can make us ready for the individual who will strike suddenly, or from hiding. Only when compelled, by clear and serious threat, do we resort to force that is deadly.

We regret that JR died in the course of performing his duty, on this sad day. He gave his life for the protection of others, while not swerve from the path of duty. No honor is higher. No sacrifice is greater.

We pray for JR's family, his friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another when the time appropriate.

I am proud to render Corporal J.R. Searcy a final salute.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
