Sgt. Kowalski,
On today, the 10th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served as a U.S. Army MP in South Korea with the 2nd “Indianhead” Infantry Division during the Cold War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I was working, the night Jeff and his partner were ambushed in the Cabanne Courts housing project. My partner and I were downtown, booking a prisoner. We responded to block an intersection on Kingshighway, to facilitate the ambulance conveying Jeff to Barnes Hospital. Jeff told everyone that I picked him-up, out of the snow, because he was freezing. I was not at the scene and was not going to take credit for that, but his doctor instructed me to go along with what Jeff was saying. The officer who picked Jeff up, out of the snow, was Officer Brian Bennett, who left the department shortly after the incident.

Years later, I would see Jeff in the neighborhood, with his two small children. I can say Jeff enjoyed his life after the shooting. Jeff never talked about the incident and neither did I. RIP Jeff.

I remember going to training for 2 weeks in Kansas in 1985 ISH with Jeff where we learned a lot and had good times, I remember Jeff eating a 32 oz steak to this day after I bet him he couldn't. Shortly after our return is when Jeff was shot, I spoke with him a few times after, but as many of us do I lost touch with him. Very sorry to hear about the loss of Jeff, he was a GREAT policeman and a GREAT guy. You will be missed

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 5th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

I also had the pleasure of knowing Jeff before he came on the SLPD. We grew up in the same neighborhood, and being a little bit older, I had the opportunity to coach Jeff in Little League Baseball for one year. He was an asset to the team, and and even greater asset to the SLPD.

From childhood friend, to teammate, to co-worker, it was an honor and privlidge to have known Jeff Kowalski.

My condolences to his wife Kim, his children, and the rest of his family. He was a Policeman's, Policeman.

I knew Jeff back in the 1970's. I was a Military Policeman at the Mart Bldg, 12th & Spruce. We served together in Korea in 1977, 2nd Div. Jeff was a very professinal soldier & officer. I had no idea until I saw this web site.
God Bless his family
