Statement from US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack: "I have ordered the Department flags to be flown at half staff in memory of Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer Chris Upton. Officer Upton was shot and killed while on routine patrol on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, in Jasper County, Georgia. This tragedy reminds us all that law enforcement is a dangerous career. We honor his service. I send my condolences to Officer Upton's family, loved ones, friends and fellow Forest Service Employees affected by this tragic event.” The United States Flag will be flown at half staff from March 8, 2010 until sunset on March 12, 2010.
