Reflections for Officer Christopher A. Upton

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

You are still in our hearts, Chris. Craig and I keep in touch with your wife and will help her if she ever is in need. Please know you are spoken of often in stories of the 'Craig and Chris adventures'.
During Craig's retirement party, I lite a candle and displayed your picture so you could be apart of the festivities. We know you would have been there in person had this not happened to you. . We miss you Chris

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I am a civilian support staff member for Police Unity Tour Chapter IV. I received the Band of Honor blue bracelet for Christopher Upton the first year of Chapter IV in May 2006. His bracelet has been on every Unity Tour since then, six to date, helping me support our 100+ riders. We just completed that sixth Unity Tour ride arriving in Washington DC yesterday. It has also ridden thousands of miles by bicycle with me, including several rides with the Injured Veterans ride program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as well as Ride 2 Recovery. It goes on for every ride I do and every Law Enforcement event I'm involved with. I did not know Officer Upton. But I see his name and End Of Watch date on his bracelet and think of him and his family often. I just wanted to let his friends, fellow officers and family know he was remembered again on this years ride.

Chris was such a wonderful fellow - always smiling and quick to stop by my desk and show me the latest photo of his daughter. He loved Jessica very much and Annabelle was the love of their lives together. I was priviledged to cross paths with this wonderful man and am sorry he left us so suddenly and early. But, how lucky we all were to have known him even for a short time.

When I signed up to run the National Police Week 5K, in Washington, DC, I didn't know that I would be running in memory of a certain officer. Before the race this morning, I looked up Christopher Upton's name, which was printed on my bib, at the National Law Enforcement Officers memorial. I saw a note his daughter left at the memoriala child's handwritingnear his name, and it hit home the sacrifices that these officers and their families make. I feel for Christopher's family, friends and colleagues...please know how much I appreciate what he did and what officers still do every day.
