I never dreamed it would be me, my name for all eternity, recorded here at this hallowed place, alas, my name, no more my face. (In the line of duty) I hear them say; my family now the price will pay, my folded flag stained with tears; we only had those few short years. The badge no longer on my chest, I sleep now in eternal rest; my sword I pass to those behind, and pray they keep this thought in mind; I never dreamed it would be me, and with heavy heart and bended knee; I ask for all here from the past, Dear God, let my name be the last.

From the family of the Alachua Police Department to the Reed and DCSO family for you will reamin in our thoughts and prayers.

I can only hope that justice is swift and sure, not only for Captain Reed, but for the other lives taken and the hurt and pain caused to the other victims. I hope that Captain Reed's wife, children, friends and the Dixie County Sheriff's Office, know that, as a nation, we will never forget Captain Reed's sacrifice and all of you are in our prayers. Captain Reed, may you arrive in Heaven on the wings of the Angels. God Bless and Godspeed.

You served your Country; you are being served in heaven. Thank you for your courage. It is now by God's good grace that you will watch over all of us who stand a watch and protect the liberties for which you gave the ultimate sacrifice. My prayers go to Holly, your boys and the rest of your family and friends who will miss you - until we all cross the bridge and are reunited. Until then, you will miss you.

When I herd of this incident it just sickened me how this happened. Small town policing is just as dangerous as the big cities and too many sick individuals are coming into Florida.
Officers are dying in record numbers is so very unfortunate.
To his family, friends, fellow deputies may God be with all of you and you are in my prayers.
RIP Capt. Reed your death will never be forgotten and you took a very dangerous criminal off the street.

For Captain Chad Reed:

Our duty as law officers takes us into situations that confront serious risk. Stopping a vehicle occupied by a felon heads the list where deadly threat is concerned. The occupant is unpredictable and reckless, while we must follow procedures and be ever mindful of the public at-large. We normally have few advantages other than being on the side of the law.

When our brother Chad was forced to engage in this incident he was as courageous as he was valiant. He was intent on taking into custody a murderer - one who killed elderly persons previously, and who would kill again. Chad engaged the culprit fearlessly and died in the process. But, not before trading shots and bringing down his attacker. While Chad's training brought him some protection, his high-regard for the innocent persons around him might well have caused him the loss of his life.

Chad stood bravely on this day and demonstrated, no matter his rank, as peace officers we all are soldiers-of-the-law. He chose not to swerve from the path-of-duty, but rather to lay down his life in the course of it. He stands as a hero among heros. May they receive him and escort him into the presence of our creator. He has earned his place among them.

We pray for his family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready, at the appropriate moment, to provide one another love and support. And, may each of them recall the best moments he brought light into their life.

As a retired state trooper and Lake County (FL) deputy sheriff, I am proud to render Captain Chad Reed a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

I started my law enforcement career as a police explorer with Captain Chad Reed. Chad had a passion for serving the public that was well above his age. He would serve the citizens of Dixie County any way he was needed. He was a volunteer firefighter, an EMT, the director of emergency manangement,a grant writer, a public spokesman, a loyal employee and a Captain supervising men and women.
He was also a loving husband and father. Holly, you know that Chad loved you very much and he loved you, C.J. an Caden more than anything in this world. Chad will watching over you three as your guardian angel and he will be waiting for you on the other side. Thank you for sharing him with Dixie County and the State of Florida.
C.J. and Caden, your daddy was one of the most respected and loved men in his profession and his life. He lived and led by example and laid a foundation of greatness for you two that will continue to touch you daily. I will never forget your dad and I want you know he was a true hero.
Chad, you served the people of Dixie, Taylor, surrounding counties and the State of Florida more in your short time on earth than many of us ever will. You inspired us with your professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication. You will be missed terribly and will never be replaced. Rest in peace brother and we will see you on the other side.
