Reflections for Sergeant J. A. "Doc" Hands

Sergeant James Amos “Doc” Hands is my paternal grandfather. He was born on November 12, 1869 in Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas. Like his grandfather before him he died in a dispute with another man. He left a wife and two young children when he died, his daughter was 10 years old and his son, my father, was 4 years old.

The "Doc" reference: James A. Hands was a veterinarian in Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma (ca. 1910), prior to moving to Sapulpa.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 94th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
