To the family and friends of Trooper Dennis Engelhard and his fellow troopers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Dennis was tragically killed.

To Trooper Engelhard's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Dennis gave to his community and the citizens of Missouri, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 25, 2009.

My heart breaks for your family. My first husband was also a trooper who was killed in the line of duty when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while on a vehicle stop. I pray the Lord will wrap his loving arms around your family and carry them through the difficult and often lonely days ahead. Thanks for your service Trooper, you will not be forgotten!

God's blessings to Dennis' family, friends, and fellow officers. Dennis was a good and faithful member here at Christ Church Cathedral. Just a couple of weeks ago Dennis served as an acolyte at the 11:15 Eucharist. He was a quiet and gentle man. He will be missed by his Cathedral family. Jesus said, "I am Resurrection and I am Life." We hold those words close to our hearts. May Dennis rest in peace.
