I am deeply sorry for your loss and can only imagine how difficult it most be compounded with the fact it was Christmas day- a day that is typically filled with joy. I can only speculate that the Lord needed Trooper Englehard for a good reason and that is why this happened. My prayers and thoughts are with his family, his loved ones, his friends and his fellow officers. May he rest in peace and may you find the strength to get through this.

For Trooper Dennis Engelhard:

Our duty as patrol officers takes us onto one of the deadliest of battlefields, a United States highway. Most of us are fortunate if we have worked in traffic and have not had at least one close-call on this extended slab of high-risk pavement.

Our brother Dennis was taken from this world while serving others, and that alone deems him a hero among heros. We can only wonder why such tragedy must occur. During the holiday season makes it no easier.

We pray for Dennis, his family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. We pray for understanding of what seems impossible to be understood. We pray for the smallest gain when we feel so great a loss. We pray for all those close to him to provide his family support and be there for them as only time can dictate.

For Trooper Dennis Engelhard, I am proud to render a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police
