Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Christopher Russell Marano

Here we are almost 2 yrs later and I seem to be having more issues now than when you died. I see you in Bella SO much! I miss you!..Your smile, your laugh, your goofy sense of humor. I so wish things were different, Chris... Why did you have to go so soon? Your 30th birthday is only days away.. I guess you proved yourself right.. You always said you'd die before you turned 30, and doing what you loved... But I really wish you could have stuck around for a little longer...for Bella. Just do me a favor and watch over her... You took a piece of my heart with you when you left us behind, I hope you take care of it! I will always love you, Chris... Maybe some day we'll all see each other again.... (143)

Hey Brother,

I was helping out with cleaning my mom's garage out a couple weeks ago and came across some pics from overseas. Like Nick said it brought back a lot of memories my friend. Miss you bro.

Hey Buddy,

Well a year has passed since you went to stand the Eternal Watch and so much has changed. Bekka and I are getting ready to spend our first Christmas as parents and Max is getting ready for his first visit from Santa LOL. He's really getting so big, so fast its amazing!! I'm finally finishing my Bachelor's Degree next month and am going up in February for my OCS board; go figure I'm bucking for Butter Bars LOL. It still seems so unreal to think that you are actually gone bro. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, especially when on the road, and it seems anytime I'm talking with the old crew, we always seem to have a story that involved you while we were overseas or in training. We all miss you brother but we understand the reason behind your sacrifice. You really did touch a lot of lives while you were here and you mean a lot to many of us. I hope you are Resting Easy; I miss you brother.

Hey Bro,
Just wanted to drop in and say hi. We all think about you and miss you everyday. I really wish you were here to meet Max, it's amazing how fast kids grow especially in that first year. Still hard to believe that I am actually a dad LOL. I can't wait until he's old enough to here some of the stories of our antics overseas and get a good laugh at our good times. Anyway, I miss you brother. Rest Easy.

Hey Brother,

Well Police Week has come and gone and your name has been added to the wall with the rest of our fallen brothers and sisters. It's in concrete now; I guess you really are watching over us for the duration from above. Bro you are truly missed; I keep waiting for you to pop up with that smart ass smile and have this be just a bad dream and worse joke. Sadly that will never come to pass. Mom and Bekka finally got the chance to meet Shelly and the girls on Sunday. We all shared jokes, memories, and most of all tears as the realization of it all set in. I miss you brother; Rest Easy friend; We'll take it from here.

Hey Buddy,

Sadly another Brother is going to be laid to rest this week. Far too many fine men and officers have perished; yet so many more still rush to answer the call. You are missed dearly Chris; not a day passes that you are not thought of. I really wish you were because I have SO much to tell you about whats going on in life. You'd get a kick out of some of it. Anyway, back to work for me dude. Take it Easy, I'll catch ya on the flip side

Hey Buddy,

Well little more than a month has passed since you left and it still seems surreal. I talked to Shelly the other day and times are so rough on her without you Bro it rips my heart out that I can't do more. She's staying strong though for the girls. She said Bella rolled over for the first time the other day and is starting to giggle and laugh at stuff now. As you know Max was born 2 weeks after you died; and he is to say the least growing like a weed. Well, it seems that way atleast. He's definitely going to grow into a fine young "Tadpole" one day. I just wish you were still here to see your little girls grow up and to meet my boy Max. Damn Bro I am not even gonna lie; this sucks. I know there is nothing I can do to bring you back but I still wish you were here. We all miss you Chris, and we're all proud of you for everything you have done in your short life. I miss ya Bro, catch ya on the otherside; Rest Easy.

I was indirectly involved with this incident the night of the 17th of December 2009. It is a night that I will remember. Actully a better way to put it is it is a night I will never forget. I pray for the spouse and children of Officer Marano. This also hits my agency as his spouse is a fine officer with us. As long as the public remembers that this fine officer gave his life to keep us all safe. It's the most unselfish act anyone can give.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
