His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

I'm not from anywhere near Tennessee and I never had the privilege of meeting any of you but I felt I should write something when I heard about the murder. I'm so very sorry and want to thank you and all those before you for your selflessness in paying the ultimate sacrifice to make sure my family is safe at night. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. There simply aren't words to express how grateful we are!

For Captain Dennis Darrel Cagle:

Surely a law officer with Dennis' time and rank could have easily summoned others to the scene of this incident. He chose to repond either himself, or with others, and assumed the risks that he expected of others. This garnered our respect. He died in the process of intercepting a violent felony. While we regret this, he has proven himself worthy of the highest honor. He is deemed a hero. Nobody, not any of us, could ask for more from such a noble leader and a gallant law officer.

We pray for Dennis, his family, his friends, his co-workers and all who care about him. We know that you will be prepared to comfort them and help them through what will surely be the hardest of times for them. Each of them has the distinct honor of having associated, as a family member or other, with a great leader and a true hero.

I am proud to render Captain Dennis Cagle a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police
