Our hearts are heavy and sorrowful when our brave officers are killed. They do so much for each of us and we give them so little in return. To the family, co-workers and friends, I am so very sorry for your loss.

I will greatly miss my brother in law enforcement. I worked with him side by side for the past two years and have known him for many more. He will be missed greatly and I know he is upstairs now smoking on a Dutchmaster Honey Cigar. I love you brother.

You have been a great teacher, officer, and friend to me and many others. You taught me many things in BLET and probably even more in the years that have followed. You have always been there for me on any question that I may have had along my way. You always seemed to have a way to make the best out of any situation, and I know that is what you would want all of us to do. You will never be forgotten, my brother and my friend. We all love and miss you already. Your family and fellow officers will be in my prayers.....Thank you for all that you gave me, and for making the ultimate sacrifice.

Charlie,

Brother ... you will be missed! I enjoyed our times working investigations together. You were always a hard worker and a dedicated officer/deputy. Some say that how you die makes you a hero, others say it's how you lived. Either way YOU my friend are a HERO! I hope the citizens of Martin County realize they lost a Hero today. You always did a great job, but you had really excelled in the war on drugs.

Cindi, Morgan and Carly, I can't begin to imagine the pain and emptiness you are feeling. I don't have to tell you what a wonderful man Charlie was, you were blessed by him on a daily basis. And I'm sure you likewise know how much Charlie loved you. Charlie often talked about his family and how much he loved you.

Brother Officers, let's not let Cpl. Charlie Brown die in vain. Let this be yet another wake up call. There is crime everywhere, from the big cities to the small towns to the quiet county roads. We must focus on our job and maintain a survival mindset. Live life to the fullest, work hard, stay safe and strive to make a difference in someone's life everyday. Jon and Brandon ... honor Charlie through your work. Charlie loved his job, make him proud.

Charlie, you are loved, honored and greatly missed. God speed until we meet again.

Cpl. Jeff Mills
Williamston Police
