For Reserve Deputy Mike Wilken:

The reserve force of any law enforcement agency is an essential element that complements our total effort to keep law and order. Reserve deputies share the risks of our duty.

Mike was a dedicated individual who served his community. It is with regret that we learn that, in the course of his duty, he was struck down by a motorist. Mike's sacrifice is most heroic and indeed most honorable.

We pray for Mike's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. We hope hope that each of these people may easily recall Mike's positive impression on their lives above all else.

As a retired state trooper and a retired deputy sheriff of Lake Co.(FL), I am proud to render Reserve Deputy Mike Wilken a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

To Officer Mike Wilken, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:

I was sorry to learn of Mike's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Wilken family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.

There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Mike's memory will be forever honored and revered.

I saw some of the news coverage of this incident and everyone interviewed said that Mike was such a great friend who volunteered so much of his time to his community. The most common description was of great big
teddy bear. Mike has left a legacy of caring.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Mike gave to his community and the citizens of Minnesota and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made October 25, 2009.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
