Sarge, I’m glad to know you and wished I’d taken time to get to know you more, but of this I am sure, you are a Christian, and my brother in Christ. I’ve always known you were a Christian by how you lived. I look forward to speaking with you in heaven. I will not miss another opportunity to get to know you better and fellowship with you brother. I enjoyed working with you this summer and enjoyed our conversation about family. Your squad speaks highly of you and has continued to be there for you, as you were there for them. When we passed in the hall at work on Tuesday, 10-06-09, I was glad to hear and see that you were in such high spirits. I wish I’d taken a break from work and stopped to talk with you more. You’ve set an example for us to follow and have encouraged us in how you lived and gave your life for Him. You’ve shown all of us the love of God, what Christianity is, what leadership is, what it is to be a Christian man, a husband, and a father. You’ve shown us what wisdom, patience, humility, honor, integrity, strength, and courage are. Not many men can say that, but you can, and you did it right. I see that you let God work through you to do his work, so that we could all see His glory. You have made a difference. You’ve left a wonderful legacy brother. At your viewing, I enjoyed the photographs your family shared with us. Wow, how God has worked in your life and blessed you. What a great life you’ve lived here. What a wonderful family. I could see your strength in them and the faith you all share. I’m so sorry and sad for their loss, but I share in their excitement that you are with God and Jesus. I can truly only Imagine what it’s like. I have no doubts that you will be there to greet us. I also have no doubts the Lord has something big and special for you…a new but continued adventure in Him and for Him. I will share your story with my family and others. Rest in peace brother knowing you did it right – “Job Well Done!”

To the family of Sergeant Hutchens,

May the support of your family and friends help ease the pain during this grieving time. Mickey served many during his 27 years of service, and it is a calling that many don't understand, as most people run from the sound of gunfire, police officers run towards it to fulfill their oath to "protect and serve."

We will ride for Mickey next May in the Police Unity Tour so that we may someday build the Law Enforcement Memorial where all of our fallen brothers and sisters will have a special place to be memorialized forever.

My sympathy is with all of you as you go through this most difficult year.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30

You were truly called to be a lawman and we thank God that you answered that call. May you rest easy in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Thank You for your service and your ministry through action!

There are no words to express to family and fellow officers how much Sergeant Mickey Hutchen's service meant to us and how sorry we are for your loss.

Sergeant Hutchens - thank you so much for your years of service keeping us safe in this unsafe world. There is no doubt that you will continue to watch over your family and fellow officers.

The Hutchens family - thank you for sharing this very special man with us, and for giving up so much of your personal time so that he could keep us safe with our own families.

Officers of the Winston-Salem Police Department - many, many thanks for what you do for us every single day of your lives, so many things that people are not even aware of. May God and your Guardian Angels keep you out of harm's way. We appreciate you more than you will ever know.
