Beitel and I were at schools battalion together. We were very good friends. We used to catch movies together and joke about how the people working at Subway were doing it wrong. (He worked at subway as a teen). I am so sorry for his families loss. He was a great Marine and I’m sure an incredible police officer. If anybody has his family’s email, I have a few pictures of him from schools battalion in 1997.

My Milipede.. I was such a young and stupid kid when I left you to join the army.. you were my best friend, my confidante, my shoulder, my strength, my smile, and even when I hurt you so unexpectedly you still showed up for me when I needed you. Every single time. I will forever regret leaving you, but I was so thankful to have you back in my life those last 2 years. I miss you every day and talk about you often. All of your silly jokes, I tell them to others and wait for the laughs to subside before I give you the credit. God, i miss your sense of humor. Every time I have a rough day, I think of you teasing me saying, "hey Panda poop, your face is leaking". Only now do I realize what I gave up, how absolutely incredible you were to me. And only now do I realize that every man after you has only fallen short. You were and still are the only man who could ever get me out of a funk, make me laugh when I didn't want to, and make the world seem like it wasn't so tough. I love you so much, and I'm sorry we had just started bonding again and I never told you. I miss you.. I know you already forgave me, because that's just who you were.. but I hope someday I can finally look you in the eyes again and tell you just how much you meant to me.

I am a below 100 instructor here in Ohio and I want to thank Officer Beitel's family for allowing us to use Officer Beitel's story in order to save lives. I use his and the Sheriff's message in my course I teach in order to remind officers the importance of wearing their seat belts. Further, his mother's video has great impact upon the lives it reaches as well to illustrate this importance from only the way a mother can. Remembering this officer today.

I just wanted to thank you Officer Beitel. You are my inspiration to become a Peace Officer and help my community. When I was 13 you worked LVMPD and responded to a shots fired call near my apartment building. You arrived and made sure we were all safe. After that, you would stop by every few days just to catch up and make sure my family were ok. You helped my oldest brother with some difficulties he was having, and even scared my first boyfriend senseless. In those few months of knowing you, I knew I wanted to grow up and become a Peace Officer just like you. You might be gone from here, but I swear you will never be forgotten. I will take your watch and protect my community just as you did with ours.

Milli-
Its been a whole year my friend, still bothers me to think about it, so i remember the first time I met you in Bolden, you were working ST with Gary Dale and the crew, we got into a foot pursuit at 900 E. Monroe and you and my partner snatched a 300lb 18 year old kid mid air before he could get over the fence, when you asked him why he ran he said he was scared, you replied of the police, he said naw, of my mama, please take me to jail, so naturally someone called his mom, it made for a fun night, thank you for that. We all miss you. I will never forget you. God bless.

Beitel,
It's been about 8 years since we last crossed paths. That night, we shared a nice ice cold rolling rock before you left the Marines the following morning. Its a small comfort, that our last meeting was shared with laughs from our trip overseas, stuff we did in the tracks and just general talk of the Corps. God Bless you, Semper Fi Marine.

To the family of Officer Beitel. I work in a very non populated area of montana as a Deputy, but my mother has lived and worked in las vegas for 20 years. I beleive LVMPD is the finest large department out there, and am so greatful to know that officers of this calibre have been there for my loved ones safety. Im so sorry that he paid the ultimate price for serving, and for your loss. I am sure he loved what he did, as most of us in law enforcement do. I am honored to pray for you this day.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
