To the Crittenden Family and NSPPD/MPD...from a portion of the "Bixby Letter" written by President Abraham Lincoln November 21, 1864.

".....I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they (he) died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln"

I don't know what to say on here any more. I have written so many of these that I have run out of words. I don't want to just keep repeating the same thing for everyone either. All I know is, I hate it when cops die, especially in the line of duty. Rest in Peace Brother.

I am not a police officer, but I did a study in seminary where I did a weekly ride along with the Atlanta Police department. I gained such a tremendous respect and apprecitation for what police do. I offer my prayers and condolences to Officer Crittendon's family and my prayers for all law enforcement officers.

I remember meeting Rick when I moved to N. St. Paul in December. He was in the Holiday gas station on Margaret having morning coffee. We chatted and he asked me where I lived, he knew just which house. It became a regular occurrance to stop in on my way to work and talk with Rick about things, crime in Hennepin County, places that were a problem in N. St. Paul. He always had a smile on his face. I remember seeing him several weeks ago when he was patrolling on the N. St. Paul motorcycle. He was wearing his cycle boots and had a smile on his face from ear to ear. The sun was out, it was a nice day and he got to have the wind in his face. I think that was a good day for him. I want to thank his family for sharing him with the community of N. St Paul. His loss is enormous and painfull to his family, it is also a huge loss to N. St Paul. You are in our thoughts and our prayers. God Bless you. Heaven holds a special place for you, you have earned it.

Hennepin County Probation/Parole Officer
