I remember when you changed careers and made the switch to law enforcment. You spent countless hours doing ride-alongs with me and I will always remember that. We had some good laughs. You made the ultimate sacrifice that will forever leave an impression on myself and my wife Terri. We'll miss you Rick.

We too had a fallen brother, Officer Peter Resch, who went 10-7 on May 19, 2005. Our thoughts and prayers for the family and employees of the North Saint Paul Police Department.

My Brother

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.

He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his
community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.

He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered. He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him. He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father. He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the people he served.

He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be. He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.

He was a cop, he was my brother.

I'm still in a state of shock that something like this has happened in our city. I grew up in this area, even attending elementary school down the street from where this horrible tragedy happened. Although I never had the honor of knowing Officer Crittenden, it sounds like he was an exceptional police office and an amazing father, husband, brother, grandfather, etc. People do not take the time to appreciate everything that the men and women of law enforcement to for us, and it is unfortunate that it takes something like this to truly realize all you guys do to keep us citizens safe. I hope that your family and friends can find peace during this difficult time, and remember all the special times they had with you. You are a true hero, Office Crittenden, and you will be sorely missed by everyone you ever came into contact with. I only wish I had the opportunity to know such a caring and fun-loving person, but I hope you are resting in peace. Thank you for your years of service, and God bless you Officer!!!!

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.
