Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Christopher Darby Ray

When I read this, my heart dropped. He was way too young and was just strating out on this journey through life and a career in law enforcement. I am always amazed and bewildered how such bad things can happen to such good people who are willing to give all for the welfare of others. He made the ultimate sacrifice and there are no words to express the sorrow that his passing brings to the world. This life and this world make no sense to me when I read something like this.

Rest in Peace DS Ray.

Chris (Williams) --

I enjoyed our time patrolling the county together. It was an honor to have known you and worked with you. Although your tour here was short, you will always be with us. We'll take care of things down here while you rest up there. When I join you on the other side, we will have to take a short one.

My deepest sympathy to Christopher's family at this time of great loss. Obviously Christopher had accomplished one of his goals by becoming a deputy with the Southampton County Sheriff's Dept. What an accomplished young man he had become in his short number of years! I know how proud his family and friends must have been of him. He will remain in the hearts of many, even those like myself who did not know him. I know he made this world a better place and thank him for his dedication to law enforcement. I know he served with pride. My sincere sympathy to Christopher's family, friends and extended law enforcement family. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Brother Ray, as you Patrol the streets of Heaven we have your watch down here. Godspeed and prayers to your Family and the Southhampton Co Sheriff's Office.

The Final Inspection
The warrior stood and faced God, which will always come to pass, He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass.“Step forward now, old warrior, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?” The warrior squared his shoulders and Said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t, ‘Cause those of us who carry guns can’t always be a saint.“I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough, and sometimes I’ve been violent, ‘Cause the world is awfully rough.“But, I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep. Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just too steep.“And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, and sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears.“I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fears.“If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand. In life I didn’t expect nor need too much, so if you don’t, I’ll understand.”There was a SILENCE all around the throne, where the saints had often trod, as the warrior stood quietly. For the judgment of his GOD....“Step forward now, my warrior, you’ve born your burdens well, walk peacefully on heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell.

Deputy Ray,
Your family, friends & co-workers are in my prayers. No matter what the circumstances, it's so difficult to lose a loved one in the line of duty.......I've been there too. The pain in your heart never goes away, you just learn to deal with it better as each day, month, year passes. May their memories of you keep them smiling as they shed many tears. Thanks for giving so much at such a young age!
