Deputy Ray,

Although I never served with you, I too once wore your uniform. Today is April 23, 2015 and you are not forgotten. Be assured the men and women of Southampton County Sheriff's Office take your sprit and memory with them on patrol.... You might even be blamed for a few pranks.... That is Brotherhood and you are remembered brother.

This week is a time to reflect and remember those we have lost. Departments and organizations across the country host services and memorials to honor those of you who have paid that ultimate sacrifice. We have not forgotten. In this household you are thought of daily. Though we may never have earthly understanding of why you were taken so early, I can assure you that the price you paid was not in vain. You see, this household doe not need a special ceremony to remember the fallen. Each morning we look into the eyes of a beautiful little girl who would never have come to be if not for the soul searching and life reflection that came to pass in the days following your accident. There has never been a real way to say thank you. Not just for your service to your fellow man and the ultimate sacrifice paid but for helping us to realize in the days after your death the strength and courage we possess. Courage and strength that enabled us to consider the possibility that this now 4 year old little girl could even be a part of our lives. Thank you. You have affected earthly changes- particularly in this home. I challenge any other LEOs and families reading these reflections to NEVER let these fallen officers' deaths be in vain. Keep their memories alive by affecting positive changes in your lives, homes, departments and organizations.

Chris, rest easy. Know that you are remembered EVERY day in this household. Thank you for your service and inspiration. Till we meet again....

Well Chris its been almost 2 years. You impacted my life more then you will ever know. From your internship days the late night college phone calls to working with you. Our fishing trips and our interupted dinners. Just wanted to say miss you and thanks for teaching me family is most important.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I hold your family in thought and prayer today, and pray for their solace. Like your parents, I share their anquish of losing a beloved child and understand that both the pain and pride are forever. You were so heartbreakingly young.

Rest In Peace.

My heart and prayers go out to the Ray family, I know it is still hard, and it may never become easier, but remember you will always have an extended family within the thin blue line. You may not know all of us, but we all appreciate what your son chose to stand for. God bless you Deputy Ray and may you rest in peace BROTHER.

Deputy Ray,
I just recently discovered that you and I were distantly related. I was then deeply saddened to find out that you had passed away on the job. I also started my career in law enforcement at 22. It takes a special person to receive the call of duty at such a young age and you were no exception. During your tour, I know you probably began to realize that this is a thankless job. Well, I want you to know that we all thank you and respect you. I hate that we will never be able to meet here on earth, but I trust and believe that we will share stories together in Heaven. Take care of everything up there, we've got it from here. Until we meet, brother.

So young. I came on at 22 years of age. I am so sorry. I look at this site so often and see to many young men and women. Why, I ask. I remember why. If we wont, then who will. God bless you Deputy Ray. You will always be in our hearts.

Chris,
My heart just sank when I heard this news, both for your fellow officers and your parents/family. You were so young with your whole career ahead of you. With family living in Southampton County, I pass through and stay in your jurisdiction several times per year and always enjoy the beautiful Nottoway and the hospitable people. I have read what others said of your enthusiasm and character. I know you will be deeply missed by your parents and family, your fellow officers, and the good people of Southampton County. Rest in Peace.

Deputy Ray,
You chose an honorable profession and gave your all. Your time as a peace officer was much too short, and I know your agency and the citizens you served will indeed miss you. The thin blue line got a little thinner on August 29th. Rest in peace, brother.
