For Detective Mark DiNardo:

The position of law officer requires courage beyond that of the average human being. To specialize in the apprehension of violent felons requires an added measure of spirit and mettle. Being part of a team that rushes to the scene of those proven to be vicious and violent demands uncommon boldness and true desire to face odds that cannot be calculated. Simply put, it takes daring and guts.

Those gaining this position have more than desire, they have proven themselves worthy through intensive and exhaustive training purposely to exclude those unable to qualify. Simply put, only the best need apply.

Their training is never finished and the preparation never complete. This special soldier-of-the-law now awaits his assignment. Simply put, when the worst occurs these tactically trained law officers surge to the front.

No greater emergency exists than the call for special assistance from fellow law officers on the street. Simply put, emergency services officers respond to cops needing help.

When that situation arises and hell awaits on the opposite side of the door these officers are the first to enter. Simply put, this isn't movies or TV -- no script exists ensuring the good guys will win.

When the door comes down and the entry made, it is in these momments some might live to tell others or might die to become reminders to all around them of how suddenly the life of all who enforce the law might come to and end. Simply put, the perils are many and the risk is high.

Mark DiNardo stood as a cop among cops. Those who were shoulder-to-shoulder with him on this fateful day will never be the same. Simply put, Mark DiNardo still lives inside those who called him brother, and they all will be ready for what awaits behind the next door.

Our prayers are with Mark's family, friends, co-workers and all who loved him.

To Detective Mark DiNardo I am proud to render a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Detective DiNardo and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Detective DiNardo, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Detective DiNardo is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
