Words cannot express the grieving that is going on over the tragic death of Omar Edwards. I had the great fortune and honor of meeting Omar back in 2008 when he tried out for the NYPD Football Team. Omar quickly embraced the team's concept of FAMILY and became a valued and cherished teammate.

When I saw the four missed calls late Thursday night from team members of the NYPD Football Team , the all too sinking stomach feeling emerged. A quick phone call gave the grim news of the situation that Omar was in and the gravity of his condition brought scores of NYPD Football team players, co-workers and friends to Harlem Hospital to hold a vigil for Omar. Alas the good news we begged and prayed for never came and Omar was taken from this earth way to early.

Words cannot comfort this loss. The circumstances behind this tradegy compound the feelings of sorrow, anger and frustration.

Omar raved about his family and loved them so much he took a leave from the NYPD Football team to prepare his current family for the birth of his second son just two months ago.

My thoughs and prayers are with Omar's wife, two children, immediate family. Please keep in mind his co workers, friends and all those that Omar made an impression on.

Please remember that another brother officer is suffering for his role in this tragedy.

Omar,
Rest in peace. You chose the honorable profession. Be proud of what you achieved in such a short time. Bless you and your family during this difficult time. Bless the other officer and the agency. The most difficult times are when we are reminded destiny is not ours to chose but only up to God the Almighty. You have been called home early Omar. God has a plan, and he needs your help. Sleep well my brother.

Your fellow L.E. community thanks you for your service. We will always be with you.
