Reflections for Border Patrol Agent Cruz C. McGuire

There’s a saying in Law Enforcement circles that there are three kinds of people in the world, Sheep, Wolves, and Sheep Dogs.
The Sheep are the general public that go through their day to day lives not really looking paying attention to what and who’s around them, believing that all people are as honest as them.
The Wolves are the criminal element. They’re the ones watching the Sheep, waiting for their chance to attack, their chance to prey on the Sheep.
Then there are the Sheep Dogs. These are those among us who have made a decision to not just be Sheep. They have decided to hunt for the Wolves and to place themselves between the Wolf and the Sheep, willing to place themselves in harms way rather then see one innocent Sheep harmed.

Cruz, you were definitely a Sheep Dog. Your life time of serves to our country and to the community more then proves that. We lost a great friend and the Patrol lost a great agent when you passed away. I can still hear your voice from time to time, all those crazy stories and the good advice. We all still miss you at the card table and dart board. But more then that, was knowing that if we were getting together for any reason, you’d be there.

I will always miss you brother.

To a true friend and brother in green that was always there for his friends and fellow agents. I will always remember the times when we had some good heart to heart talks and the advise you gave me when I was going through my divorce. The good times and the dumb things we got into goes without saying.

I had the honor to have met Agent McGuire, while I was working in the Del Rio Sector 1985/1999. Agent McGuire never had a bad moment as I remembered him been always easy to get along with type of person, while on duty and off duty as well. Agent McGuire will always be missed, and remembered as One Great Great Friend and Highly Respected Agent.

DRS will never be the same without Cruz. I am honored to have had the opportunity to have worked alongside Cruz McGuire. He was a very giving man, always there for you if you needed help with anything! He loved his work, always referring to his "Beloved Patrol". One hell of a sign cutter. He was always the go to guy if you lost the sign. I learned a lot from Cruz. He was never afraid to speak his mind and tell it like it is, always supporting the PAs working the line. He was an excellent example for the new agents, this is what a PA should be, learn from him and follow. His memory will live on in the stories many of us had with him.

We called him the Silver back, among others, but he really was a gentle man with a big heart! Always a true friend and brother. Cruz- There is not a day I don't think of you bro!

Cruzito, Man i'm still telling your stories!!! Those long days.. that trail we went on over 16 hours long. I wanted to quit but you kept pushing me and we got 'em. Had blisters on my feet so bad, but we went back to work a few hours later!! Those parties at the Ranchito!! Good times Corky.

I tell "Corky stories" all the time to these new boots... Your name will live on. Man whenever the going gets tough i always think of you. I've pulled out my Corky Coin on midnight shift while waiting on a dope trail more than once. I know you heard us talking about you the other day when we were at the Cantina, jus ain't the same without you man.

You were a great Father, Son, Agent, and most of all my camarada. Vaya con Dios partner.

Cruz, I can't even begin to tell you how much you are missed and how different this place is without you here. To me you were more than a fellow agent, you were a friend and a guide. Thank you for all your advise and for being there when I was down. Thank you for all the great times and thank you for helping me get through the difficult times. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye to you but as you know I was going through some very difficult times of my own. I know you heard me asking you for help even from that place where will meet again. Cruz, may you rest in peace and I know we will see each other again........

There are no words that I can say that will express the sorrow that your family both at home and at work has gone through. I will never forget the time we spent on the range and on the poker table. Thanks for being my friend. Until we meet again! Save me a seat.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss you, brother! Thanks for ALWAYS being there for me. You were more than my best friend...you were my brother, my back-up, my every day phone call. There's a big hole in my heart now, but I know we will see each other again someday. Thanks for the hunts we shared, the poker games, and all the great times we had on and off duty. Work isn't the same without you, but you taught us how to give all we had in everything we do. God bless you and keep you; rest my brother 'til we meet again.

This man, Cruz "Corky" McGuire, was always there for all of us. He was the most unselfish soul I've ever known. God's blessings to his wonderful family.
