Officer Freis's story was read in Richton Park Police Department's roll call on 1-8-18 to remember and honor him.

Rest in Peace, Patrolman Freis. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

Officer 11169

January 29, 2013

Its a distressing thing to discover that any officer has injured or has been mortally wounded while discharging the duties required of an officer. Its a wonderful thing to find a way, such as this internet site, that allows renewed contact with the fact the officer made the supreme sacrifice and is not forgotten. This is part of the cost of freedom. Sgt. George Freis has remained in obscurity for decades now but the advent of our community's History Committee has been able to provide many details on our Venice Police Dept and we're so pleased with this site for that cooperation. We thank you, George, for your sacrifice.
We offer our condolences and prayers to the family and to the community.

Patrolman Freis,
It has taken over 82 years, but you are finally being honored. I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Venice.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 83rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 79 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Phyllis Loya
mother of fallen officer Larry Lasater
