I am deeply saddened by this loss. My brother(Boifay Police Officer) went to a call and there was shot 13 times. I can not imagine how it would have been to loose him. I am praying for the family and know this is not something they will get over.. EVER... but have to change their lives to live to deal and cope.. Prayers and Tears are with you. T

For Police Officer Dexter Hammond:

A call comes out for the safety of others in jeapordy and an officer of the law responds. This is a call that is among the most dreaded not only for the danger involved, but because our actions are almost always the subject of much criticism. Both by the news media and the public in general. Sometimes even in our own departments. The call could have been handled in some other way or the officer acted to hastily is the complaint is the hue and the cry. When the officer is the one who dies, hardly is their any lament. Some now wish to be of support and to be part of the "glory" of being a soldier-of-the-law.

The simple truth is that only a small percentage of our populace choose to be our protectors out where the physical danger exists. Where the injury and the deaths occur. Dexter Hammond was one of those who proudly accepted the challenge. Who stepped forward to make a safer world. Knowing what price could have to be paid.

So on this day, knowing that Dexter Hammand surely will not be the last to die in this manner, we pause to recognize him as a hero among heros. A valiant and courageous one. A respected one.

We grieve for his family, his co-workers and all who knew and respected him. May they be comforted knowing that all of law enforcement everywhere render him a final salute.

So tragic. My brother, rest easy your watch is over brave warrior. I pray for comfort for your family and comrades. I pray the Lord welcomes you into His glory. Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for another.
I AM A WARRIOR
— by Jon F. Hooper

I stand with God.
I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can’t.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the downtrodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God!

Rest in peace, dear brother, we will pick up where you left off.
