Reflections for Sergeant Ervin Julius Romans, II

Your heroism and service is honored today, the third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service as a law enforcement offier and as a Marine . My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer and Marine who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I will always remember hearing the news coverage that day of the tragic news. I was saddened, angry and dismayed that our Bay Area police community had been dealt the blow of four noble men protecting our community being shot.

I am praying for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever, Your family is in my heart's embrace today.

Rest In Peace.

Every year since 2009 when we lost you and three of your follow officers, Sergeants Dunakin and Sakai and Officer Hege, I have made the blue ribbons with the 51 names of the Oakland Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. It is my honor to do this for the fallen officers. The ribbons hang on a tree outside the Warehouse Bar and Grill in Oakland, California for all to see the sacrifice they have made to keep us safe. God bless you all and rest in peace.

I worked the SFOBB for several years in the 70's and booked at OPD numerous times. I knew several motor officers with your department and they were all "EXCELLENT" motor men...I am certain that you loved your duties as much as they and I did. I know how much you loved your Motorcyccle duties and you were a perfect example of a fine officer. From one Motor Officer and fellow Marine to another...SEMPER FI....You are not forgotten....

On the first anniversary of Sergeant Romans' death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Sergeant Romans is not forgotten.

I want to offer my condolences to this truly dedicated Officer and his family. It's a shame to hear that another officer has paid the ultimate sacrifice. We protect our communities from harm but take the risk of not coming home. I appreciate the service you have given us.
