Good morning, I am currently a recruit in the Deputy Sheriff Trainee academy for Lasd Class #400. Just want to give my prayers to the family of Deputy Escalante.

I started my career on this department as a Custody Assistant assigned to MCJ. When I was assigned my locker I looked inside and found a black ribbon with a small golden cross attached to it. On the ribbon in golden letters it reads:

"Dep Abel Escalante Eow August 02 2008".

For two years I looked up at that ribbon as a daily reminder of the ultimate sacrifice true heroes make in the line of duty. I am now in an academy class training to be a Deputy Sheriff. I still look at that ribbon every morning to give me strength. I hope to return to MCJ as a Deputy Sheriff and again walk those same very halls that you did.

Thank you for the strength Deputy Escalante and God bless your family.

I spent the last week with your son at COPS camp in Wisconsin as his mentor. This is the second year he was in my cabin. You should be proud he is a nice young man. Your wife is doing a good job with him.

Abel, yesterday was 2 years since you were taken from us. I can feel you in our lives everyday. Alex and Marisa had a blast at COPS kids camp last week. You would be so proud to see how awesome they turning out to be. Julian is just like you. He spent the least amount of time with you but he does so many things that you did. We all miss you and love you so much. I just hope that your proud of me and what I've been able to accomplish. Love you Babe!

You were taken too soon and it all seems unfair,
but the Lord needed a special angel and called you to be there,
You will never be forgotten, as many of us still,
remember your love for your family, friends and those you served was always very clear.
Your loving family are survivors with hearts of gold, loving caring people who are stronger than they even know.

God Bless you Deputy Escalante, your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I'm new to this ODMP website but I want to offer my condolences to those who worked with him or those who were really close. It never matters where we are located we all do the same job which is to protect and serve our communities. It affects everyone within the law enforcement when another officer pays the ultimate sacrafice with his life. You will always be remembered by family, friends, co-workers, and everyone here at ODMP.
