Tom,
You challenged my preconceptions and forced me to think with objectivity. We argued openly and you held no grudge. You were a teacher and a friend and I am glad to have known you. Thank you Tom. Rest easy.

To Jailer Thomas Carroll, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:

I was sorry to learn of Thomas's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Carroll family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.

There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Thomas' memory will be forever honored and revered.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Thomas gave to his community and the citizens of Minnesota and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 10, 2009.

To the Family of Officer Thomas Carroll: Having spent eighteen years walking the cellblocks, yards, and perimeters of a Maryland prison, I know the demanding work our jobs required of us. It takes dedication, sacrifice, and a willingness to go where most people would never go. I also know the sadness of losing a brother Officer. My heart goes out to you all. May God bless you all.
