God Bless you sir and may he hold you in his loving arms. We lost another hero in Blue and heaven gained an angel.
To your family, I know there are no words that will take away the pain you feel or ease the hurt in your heart, I walk the same path as you in life as I lost my son, Mike, 5 months ago in the line of duty in the same tragic way. Please know that we stand beside you silently and are here when you need us.

To my Brothers & Sisters of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and to the family of Captain Bierwiler I offer my deepest and most profound sympathies for your loss.

I first met Captain Bierwiler shortly after an incident involving our two agencies back in April 2003. We lost an Officer in a duty related shooting and the Hernando Cnty Sheriff's Office was one of the agencies involved with tracking down and administering proper justice. Captain Bierwiler was part of that group who was involved with taking out my Officer's killer. Officer Maryann Collura was not only my friend, but she was a member of the squad I helped supervise.

I had the pleasure to meet with Scott and talk to him at length during his visit north. It was nice to talk with him and share with him stories of Officer Collura. I found him extremely personable and am sure he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

I am a charter member of the Police Unity Tour and will be riding this year in Scott's memory. I would be honored to meet members of the Sheriff's Office or the Captain's family if any will be in Washington DC this year for the Candle Light vigil. Again I am sorry for your loss and want all of you to know that not only do I mourn your loss but my entire agency does as well.

Sincerely,
Rich Schultz

God Bless you and your family. May they have the courage to remember how you lived your life as a hero. Too close to home for me. Four years l0 months since I lost my precious boy in a line of duty auto accident. I thank God for the 27 years I had with him on this Earth. He was such a proud Father of three and a loving person to everyone who knew him. Your watch didn't end sir. To me EOW means Eternally On Watch. You are now another angel watching from above

For Captain Scott Bierwiler:

We begin our tour-of-duty with the expectation that we will make the community a better and safer place for all to live, work and play. Although we encounter hardship on a daily basis, we push to the back of our minds that we could die. Then fate steps in. Tragedy strikes. It is our lot. We are law officers. We have a duty, not a job.

Captain Scott Bierwiler sets again the example of what it means to pin on a badge - high risk. Unfortunately, he won't be the last. We serve, protect, and hope that we beat the odds. It's possible some might suddenly decide the risk is too high. Most of us, though, will simply show-up for our next tour-of-duty. What is different now is that we have lost a brother. We have lost Captain Scott Bierwiler. We will miss him. We will also honor him. He is a hero among heros.

As a retired state trooper and a retired Lake County (FL) deputy sheriff I am proud to render him a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police
