Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Curtis Allen Massey

I worked with Curt briefly as part of the Juvenile Diversion Program run through the CCPD. I was a volunteer with my church. I remember him as being full of life and well respected by all. It was a pleasure to know him however briefly. I pray that his family finds continued peace and comfort in knowing they will be reunited with him one day soon.

Curt, my brother, I miss you. You left a legacy for all of us to follow. Rest In Peace.

"Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me, because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them. The one who was dying blessed me; I made the widow’s heart sing. I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth." Job 29:11-17

I am a Recruit currently in LASD Academy Class 403. I wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to LT. Massey and his family. I never met him but I was told many good things about him and how he operated with the highest level of professionalism. I will strive to one day be as good of an officer as he was.

LASD Class 394 had the honor of dedicating our colors run on July 23rd in your honor. It was a very heart felt day for all us to pay tribute to you and your family. More than anything, from having this opportunity to honor you, we were able to learn what an amazing person you were: husband and father, dedicated officer, and community leader. If we can be half the man and officer you were, I feel we will all be succesful in our careers and more importantly our lives.

Curt will be missed by all his fraternity brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon from Northern Arizona University and our hearts go out to his family. I lost contact with Curt over the years and I was looking him up to try to reconnect when I heard the news. He and I drove back from college to California together and we were part of the same pledge class. I still remember we were trying to figure out who would make a great pledge class president when voices got out of control. Curt jumped up on the table began to walk back and forth to take control of the meeting. That spoke to us all. He was elected. He was a leader and he at the time was a volunteer firefighter devoting his life to saving lives. He continued to worked hard with his studies, firefighting, and with his fraternity. I tip my hat to him and I have a heart felt respect for Curt an extrodinary individual. May he rest in peace.
