Reflections for Police Officer Jarod Michael Dean

Another brother in blue passes, another regular guy just trying to do right by his fellow man by un-doing others wrongs and up-keeping the rights. Just a routine call, removing debris from the roadway. We never know when our time has come to pass. This young Officer will be missed by many, some who never even knew him will weep at his passing. Rest in peace young Officer you served your community well. You will be missed, God Bless you and your family.

We at KT Elementary are so sorry to here of the loss of Officer Dean. He was a great friend to our students and they loved him very much. He always had time to talk with the kids and give them any help he could. He visited our school often and the kids knew him well. Many are feeling great loss at his passing. He made a difference for good in the lives of the children at Katherine Thomas Elementary. Seeing him in the restaurant in town, he often would speak with the kids and give them encouragement. He was an honorable and committed officer that we all loved dearly.

To all who knew Jarod and his family I want to say that I am deeply sorry for such a tragic loss. To all his brothers and sisters I want to say this is a time when you all need the support of each other the most. I used to work with Jarod and he always made everyone laugh. We both went on to attend police training around the same time; him in Ohio and me in Virginia. My squad just lost our Lieutenant (John B. Patton, Jr.) on Dec 27, 2008 and the support we received from others was incredible. I will be extending that support we received to the Boston Heights Police Department and be there on Saturday at the funeral to show my support for you men and women in the deparment. Here is a poem read at our recent funeral from an unknown author that I would like to share:

"It's not the Glory"

An Open Letter

I know when I leave for work each day
And kiss my loved ones goodbye,
That I jeopardize their future
And they must wonder why.
And yet, they do not ask me
To explain the job I do--
For their pride in me is endless
And their love for me is true.
Oh, they know it's not the glory
Of the danger I may face--
It's more a conscious desire
TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
You see, if I can make a difference,
Through my efforts and my time,
If I can save just one life
Or prevent some senseless crime,
If I can find a missing child
Or make a city feel secure--
Then the risk to my own safety
Is so little to endure.
And while in the line of duty,
I feel my faith has grown.
Side by side with my father--
I'll never walk alone.
For if I chance to follow my heart,
My brightest light has shown...

God Bless
