Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Alex Del Rio

Alex, it's been almost a month and I can still barely believe you're gone. We met by happenstance and things just clicked between us. I'll always remember our conversation about Transformers during our first meeting, the excitement you had when we talked about your goals, and your positive outlook...I'm not sure if you ever knew, but our meetings were often the high point of my week. You were absolutely amazing and I can only thank God that I got the privilege to know you, not only as a client, but as a person, and as a friend.

Dear Alex,

In September 2008, I had the gracious honor of meeting you when the Accident Investigation Unit spoke at the Citizens Police Academy. Also as a community involved leader, I also had the pleasure of meeting you then, may I say with all the reflections I have read, my sediments are the same, your were the "lead by example officer" and will defiintely be a tough act to follow. your attitude, your appearance, all the unique qualities in a Police Officer, but you were also sensitive and caring to others in need, you served and protected. You answered the call of yourself gave your all, and A PART OF AMERICA DIED) Watch over us Alex and keep us safe.

I miss you friend. I'm having a hard time dealing with you being gone. I keep thinking you're on vacation and going to walk through the door any minute. You were so full of life and fun. You were my buddy. You stuck with me through thick and thin when I didn't even realize it. This has all been so surreal.

It's been three weeks and I'm missing you lots. Please keep us all safe.

Hi Alex,
It's been over 2 weeks since you left us, but I think about you everyday and I will continue to do so. You always had a genuine smile, and a "hey Christine" for me. I can still hear your voice in my head and it brings a smile to my face.

I'm also grateful that you were the officer on the last two DUI crashes that I handled. You were always willing to help me out, without me even having to ask. And I'm still thankful that you cosigned the towslip with me because I was "paranoid" that one time haha.
I'm going to miss you!

Alex,

My friend. What I wouldn't give to just see you and get to talk to you just one more time :) But I'm sure after that "one more time" I'd hope for another and another. I still can't believe that there won't be more time to spend with you. You were always such a wonderful, genuine person. Your smile and laughter lit up a room. Your services were absolutely beautiful and perfect (not a single thing out of place, just as you would have it). Throughout the two days though, I kept looking back waiting to see you, expecting you to ask us, "What's going on? What are you guys doing?" Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

Everyday I know that you are still watching over all of us, just as you did while you were here. I love you and miss you so very much.

God bless you and may you rest in peace. Our memories of you will live forever in our hearts!

Some of the police officers in our department knew you well. And just in talking with them, I am truly saddened that I did not have the opportunity to meet you in person. May God bless your family and keep them strong during their time of need. Rest in peace brother.

Alex, I'm grateful we got to go on at least one cruise. It was a great time and I got to see the kind of person you really are. In the seven years I've worked with you I don't think I've ever seen you mad or angry. You always had a smile on your face. I'm sure you're smiling now and still eating protein bars and egg white omelets. I wish I could back you up on just one more traffic stop, and afterward we could easily sit there for an hour talking. It was not more than a month ago, out on your favorite east side spot- 1300 block of Sheridan, that we did just that. I'm greatful for that conversation that night and for you being a friend. You will be missed.

Alex (my "son", friend, confidant), You were taken from me suddenly but the memories we shared will forever remain in my heart. God needed His angel and the only means of transport was death. Thanks for being my friend and thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a friend to you. I love you # 2513. RIP

Dear Alex,
Although I knew you for a short period of time, your demeanor made it so easy to summons you for assistance, no matter what the task, Thank You.
I've mourned many officers that I've worked with, but yours was truly difficult. I know God has a special place for you in his Kingdom.
People like yourself are hard to come by, but I'm glad I can wear the same patch on my shoulder, that you so proudly and dearly respresented all those years. You make me proud to be part of this department. R.I.P my brother.

To the Del Rio Family:
God Bless the strength you've demonstrated on such a harsh loss. Just know that Alex is in a better place now. God Bless You Always

Alex,

It happened countless times. I would be on a 10-50 and after speaking to the driver and occupants, cancel my backup. Shortly after, I would see that slick-top pull up behind my car and you got out. I tried to return the favor whenever I was working. It's hard to keep up with that many traffic stops though.

I want to thank you for being there. Thank you for showing up as my backup. Thank you for the hard, honest and loyal work you did for the citizens of Hollywood and everyone else whose life you touched.

I can guarantee you that I will drive down Sheridan St every day. Every day I will think of you and your family. I will know that you are still my 10-94 wherever I am at.

Thank you

I met you a few times around the city. You were always upbeat and nice to speak too. I was out of the country when I went on line and read the bad news. I'll miss running into you. See you again one day...
