Deepest sympathies for you and your family at this time of need. As a wife of a police officer, the news I heard this morning of a officer down only 20 minutes from my home initially was frightening and sickening followed by sadness when I heard that Sam had passed away. I feel blessed that there are hero's like Sam that choose to walk this earth as our protectors. I know god will protect him and keep him and all of your brothers and sisters of law enforcement will hold you and keep you in there prayers.

Sam,
I am in shock right now. How is a person like you taken from us. In law enforcement we deal with so many things, and pray we come home everynight to our families. Hearing of your passing is heart wrenching and simply hard. You sir are a hero, however its not how you died that made you a hero, its how you lived. We have the watch from here Brother. Rest easy bro, the line stands strong ~Kevin

Sam-
You spent your lifetime to get to this point and you paid the ultimate sacrifice. All of us that grew up around you know how great you were and are so proud of what you have accomplished.
I hope all will recognize your bravery and who you were, what you have done for our community and country. You took on a very dangerous role in the FBI, not everyone is suited for. You did keep the streets a little safer each time you served "just another search or arrest warrant."
It's been a while since I last saw you but form all in law enforcement, thank you for all you have done. You will be greatly missed by your family, friends and fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters.
I am so sorry it came to this but you will never stray far from our hearts and memories, you will ALWAYS be remembered by the courageous things you did every day! RIP brother

God bless you SA Hicks. You are a National Heroe for your ultimate sacrifice. We will pray for your faimly. Anyone who is in LENF knows that all the best planning in the world for the execution of a search/arrest warrant cannot predict the final outcome when you go through a target's door. All of us you have done it and walked away to serve another day truly understand we were just lucky and it was not our time. We will need many more heroes like you in this continous battle with evil in the world.

Sam and I met at a Pro Active Criminal Enforcement training seminar at the MSP training center. Following the training, Sam contacted me on several occasions to assist with his cases. From the short time that I knew him, it was easy to see that he was an excellent cop and a great person. He will be sorely missed. On behalf of myself and the Maryland State Police I extend our deepest condolences to Agent Hick's family.
Brooke- Your husband served the citizens of MD and the United States with pride and honor. His sacrifices remind us of the dangers we face each day. While I can't imagine what you are going through, take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place. Always tell your son that his father is a Hero and he will always have a Guardian Angel.
