Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Lawrence Wilhelm Canfield

Larry, I remember meeting you at the Police Memorial in Washington DC in 2008 when we were providing motor escorts for the survivors family buses. You will be greatly missed but your dedicated service, smile and trademark cigar will never be forgotten.

Larry,
Thinking back on a conversation we had about a construction site where I was working. I mentioned that nearby was a place where some who were homeless had made a shelter for themselves. It was a surprise when you knew the names of each one. Clearly, when you donned your uniform and patrolled your beat, you were working to protect and serve everyone. And when you were on duty, the reputation and honor of peace officers were in good hands.

I am certain that when the next call comes in that you will answer it and you will give it your usual Canfield effort.

Larry,

I will always remember your trademark stogie, always unlit, hanging out your mouth. After a long night on graves, you always had something nice to say when you were coming on dayshift. It seems like so many years ago. I know you really cared about your job and the citizens who you served. Our department is that much less without your presence. Say hi to Vu for me up there and keep the rest of us safe down here. We'll miss you buddy.
