Sergeant Michael King,

I regret to have read the circumstances of your death today. I can only feel selfish at this moment because I know that it could have been someone close to me or an officer I know personally that met his fate in this manner. But the truth is that any law officer could have been the target and we all regret that it was you. Our pain is just as intense as you are our brother. To have killed you is to have killed a part of all of us. We are all related as soldiers-of-the-law. We feel for you and pray for your family,

Personally, I loathe the culprit, the scum and the trash that will walk up to a law officer and shoot him by surprise. I know that such a person is pitiful, wretched and has no life nor anything to live for. They are cowards who live in a world where honor and respect do not reside. They killed you by surprise because they feared to confront you any other way. A loser never takes such a risk. You can be assured that law officers everywhere, starting on your own department, and then extending out, will find your killer.

In the meantime, your duty here is finished. You have honored our profession by standing on your watch and honored your family by having had the courage to become a law officer. Those who have given their lives before you surely await to greet you as a hero among heros.

I am proud to render you a final salute.

Sergeant King, I can not think of a more cowardly or dastardly action than that of the scumbag that did this to you. My prayers are with you, your family, and the brave Officers of the University City Police Department. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Rest easy now my brother; we'll take the watch from here. GOD BLESS YOU!

Although an agent of Satan took you from us he only sent you to be with the elite brothers and sisters of the badge in Gods' Police Deprtment in heaven. There you have only the company and companionship with all our brothers and sisters who have also paid the ultimate price for the honor, love and integrity you demonstrated here on earth. Rest assured your name will never be forgotten and is enscrolled in the purest of gold in the hearts and memories of those you have left behind. Know also your family will be cared for by these same brothers and sisters. Rest in peace brother.

I am sorry for the loss of a fellow officer and the grief felt by all that knew him. The 7th district shares a border with University City and it is always a pleasure to see the U-City coppers stolling throught the loop. It is a mystery to me that people have the capacity to be so cruel as to execute a man who did nothing but serve and protect his community. His memory will live on, this I know. My heart and prayers go out to all of you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
