David,

What a week, first my 06 Journal. So many things in it some good and some sad because they will not happen now. Then the 1996 prom glass. A lot of great memory. Then driving around the trailer park. Alot of great times you had growing up there. Sledding down the hill. The garden and so many more great moments there. And soon the Leprechaun what fun we had in the yard and at the firehall. Dody I think loved trying to trap one. Or she thought we were crazy. A week full of all kinds of memory.
But a miss you more and more each day and I miss me.
XOXO

I first drove by the memorial cross on Route 15 about six months ago on my way to Maryland. It caught my attention not only because it was a memorial cross, but also because there was someone's name on it. (I've noticed other crosses along Rte 15 but none with a name, at least on the stretch of road I use.)

The memorial cross is very well done and very well positioned because people can read the name easily when they drive at a safe speed. I've always meant to look up who that person named David Tome was (I'm not from York County, I didn't hear about his death when it happened), but I doubted that I would ever find anything on the Internet since it didn't sound like a very uncommon name. I imagined I would have to sift through hundreds of results, perhaps in vain, to learn what had happened to him.

I did very much wonder how he had passed away, since there is no crossroad nearby and there wasn't anything like a pole right by the cross that could have caused a fatal accident. Tonight I finally got around to looking up the name David Tome. The loss of any life is a tragedy, but the circumstances of Ofc David Tome's death make it particularly tragic. It seems so unfair. Dear friends & family of Ofc Tome, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I wanted to leave a note to say that the cross helps people like me who are not from York County learn about Ofc Tome. It keeps his memory alive and even expands the number of people who have been touched by his life, even in death. I know it won't be a consolation to his relatives but I wanted to say that there are people who notice the cross by the side of the road and look up his name and are sad that he died so young and also are grateful for his service to his country.

My son, my baby boy. For some reason this year 2013 the grief I have is over taking me. I will never get over it. My hero today, tomorrow and forever. Keep giving us signs. Your hero turned 50 today. I am so proud that I got to be your mother for 31 year. The hole in my heart aches. I miss you and love you.

We could have never imagined 9 years ago how today would be. I know you would have wanted a celebration today and just thinking about how you would've celebrated would bring a smile to your face. I can see that smile on your face :) Please let Dody and especially E know that you are still there celebrating with them on a day like today, and will be always. We love and miss you so much

David,
Merry Christmas. It will never be the same. Josy sick I am sick.
Nothing goes as planned. But as long as we are safe. That is the main thing. But it did snow tonight, took me back to the times that mean the world to me now. Playing in the snow with my two kids sledding down the road in the trailer park. And the good times in Glen Rock in the snow and at Christmas.
Tell Jesus Happy Birthday
Love you

It has been 4 years since a careless, reckless driver took your life and changed the lives of your family and friends forever.
We still vividly remember where we were and what we were doing when we got the heartbreaking news that you were taken from us.
We will always remember you because of the imprint that you left in our lives and our hearts.
Remembering you with love....

It's hard to believe it's been 4 years. 4 years since our lives changed forever and 4 years that we've had to live without you. So much has happened in the past 4 years that YOU should have been a part of. It's also been 4 years that your amazing wife has shined to so many throughout all these tears. Everything happens for a reason and although we may not know why you were chosen, we know why you chose Dody. I don't know many people who would have been able to turn this tragedy into a great cause, publicly celebrating you every fall and raising so much money and awareness to benefit others so they may not have to go through this. Not only would you be so proud of her but how she is raising your kids. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Such an incredible woman / mother in the midst of such pain and heartache. David, I know you would be so proud, smiling ear to ear, I just hope and pray that you can show her this and continue to give her strength for Eil and Josy. So many love and miss you so much, I don't think you knew how many lives you touched and will continue to do so thanks to Dody, Eli, and Josy. Please continue to guide and give strength to those who need to feel your love.

You and family always in my heart

I thought of you yesterday, as I do most days, and what happened 11 years ago yesterday....I also thought of your loved ones as I do most days.....Yesterday reminded me how beautiful it was 11 years ago, except then was one of the best days of both of your lives. And yes, she may be out of jail and I couldn't agree with your mom more about such an inhumane statement. Yet just one more sign of who she really is. Most say actions speak louder than words, but in her case, I'm not so sure. David, not only do we need signs from you during this trying time into next month, but also support your fellow officers to make sure she gets caught sooner than later and violates her parole :) We all know it's just a matter of time, we're just asking for your help ;)

Hugs every day to those left behind

David,

11 years ago today, you married the love of your life.
Your were a couple that became one. But because on one woman named Joanna it was all taken away. And today she is out of jail. One year and four months in jail for killed you. The justice system is not fair. And she's said she happy she's served her debt to society and wants to move on with her life. That statement is just so wrong. Her debt here on Earth will never be paid. And how do we move on with out you. Everyday I think of you and want you back in my arms. Someday that will happen and Joanna will stand in front of her father and answer to him? She is reunited with her children, But you are not and that SUCKS. Sorry David but I am so mad at this moment if just has me so upset. But I still have you in heart and always will. I really need a sign from you that will give me peace and hope for tomorrow.

Love you Son

This may just be another ordinary day for most people-but for you it would have been something Special....
another first for your little 'princess'.
Another 'first' that you would have (should have) had the opportunity to be a part of, experience and enjoy.
Miss you and think about all of the life experiences that you never were given a chance to experience and enjoy.

I am mailing my "No Parole" letter today and am urgins all my friends here in Memphis TN to do the same. Thank you for your service, Office Tome. Karen, my brother was murdered in 1988 and the man served only 8 years of a 20 year sentence. I wish I had then what families have now - a voice to speak up for the victim. It never gets easier, but, you do learn to function, I promise you. God Bless you and your family.
