WHAT A SHOCK TO HEAR OF SOMEONES DEATH WHILE SO YOUNG AND ACCOMPLISHED. AT A GLANCE ONE WOULD THINK THAT HIS WHOLE LIFE HERE ON THIS EARTH WAS AHEAD OF HIM BUT WE NEVER KNOW WHAT GODS PLAN REALLY IS FOR EACH OF US. TO THOSE READERS WHO DIDN'T KNOW GEORGE PERSONALLY AS I DO I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT HE WAS A FINE CITIZEN AND A MODEL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE GAME WARDEN COMMUNITY. GEORGE DEFINITELY POSSESSED ALL THE FUNDAMENTALS OF HUMAN CHARACTER THAT COULD TURN THIS TRAIN WRECK THAT WE CALL THE USA INTO A COUNTRY THAT GOD WOULD BE PROUD OF AND WOULD ONCE AGAIN BLESS. HE WAS HARD WORKING, SOMEWHAT OPINIONATED, DEDICATED TO HIS FAMILY, AND NOT EASILY INFLUENCED OR LED ASTRAY. THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT I COULD MAKE KNOWING HIM FOR AS LONG AND AS WELL AS I DID IS THAT THERE WAS VOLUMES OF EVIDENCE IN HIS LIFE TO CONVICT HIM OF BEING A CHRISTIAN SO ANYTHING ELSE SAID OF HIM IS OF LITTLE SIGNIFIGANCE. IF YOU READ THIS AND YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO LIKES LEGACYS OR FAIRY TAIL STORIES I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE TWO MEN(13YRS AND SOON TO BE 15YRS) HE LEFT BEHIND FOR A SHORT WHILE ARE MUCH MORE DESERVING OF THE TITLE OF "MAN" THAN MOST GROWNUPS THAT I COME INTO CONTACT WITH ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. THE BIBLE SAYS THAT A CHILD IS AN ARROW IN THE HANDS OF A MIGHTY WARRIOR. GEORGE DID NOT SEND HIS BOYS WANDERING WRECKLESSLY THROUGH LIFE LIKE MOST PARENTS DO BUT INSTEAD TOOK THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED, LAID A FOUNDATION AND TOOK CAREFUL AIM WITH SAM AND SETH AND THERE IS NO BETTER TESTAMENT OR ACHIEVEMENT AS TO WHO GEORGE HAROLD WHATLEY JR. REALLY WAS. EVEN THOUGH GOD HAS TOLD ME THAT GEORGE IS REUNITED WITH FAMILY IN A WORLD WHERE THERE ARE NO TROUBLES I AM SAD FOR THIS LOSS AND WISH I HAD TOLD HIM THESE THINGS BEFORE HIS PASSING.

Game Warden Whatley served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Game Warden Whatley. My heart goes out to your loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can.

It has been ten days since you left us and it is hard to put into words how you are missed. When I was returning from your funeral and rolled across the Culberson County line, I could see the West Texas mountains being illuminated by the moonlight. I sensed you were looking down on us and guiding us safely to our headquarters. I didn't get a chance to know you very well, but the few meetings and homeland security operations that we worked together were enough for me to see that you were a man to be admired and respected. Sometimes God places people in our path for a reason. I believe you were choosen to show us that a simple man can mend fences, be fair but firm, and change a little part of their world by simply putting a smile on their face. Thank you for coming out to West Texas with a positive attitude and know that you made a difference that will be felt for years to come. I am proud to have served with you and want you to know that your brother and sister Game Wardens in District 3 will continue to honor you each day when we pin on the blue badge, strap on the gunbelt, and place that cowboy hat on our head. Rest in peace my brother. I look forward to us meeting again somewhere down that long road.

Game Warden George Whatley,

A dedicated law officer who was active in keeping order within the ranks of those who participate in the game-hunting sport. Also an officer who took an active part in his community and the school system by provinding active participation in the education of youth. A noble deed to be sure. That he would die in the process is as confusing as it is continually a question we ask. Why? Why does this happen and why to this person who is dedicated to making life among us better? The answer is something that will always elude me, but I know that he was someone who made a difference. Someone who sought to take an active part in creating a role model for others. Someone who care about his community and it's youth. That makes him a hero to us all. And, that is something that we can dwell upon and accept while we continue to search for answers. We can all accept that a hero died today. And, I render to you, warden, a final salute.

Sir
It is with great sadness that i read of your loss. As i have wrote before to others lost in similar circumstances, Training is suppose to make us better, it should improve our skills and that is what makes losing a great man and officer difficult. This type of incident continues to increase and no i don't have the answer because training is critical. May the Lord be with your family and co-workers through this terrible time. And God Bless you Warden Whatley
