To the family and friends of Officer Bradley Moody and the members of the Richmond Police Department, and most especially to Brad.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Brad died so traqically.

To his family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous.

Two Richmond PD officers were my guardian angels approximately 18 months after my son was murdered, and I was having a very bad day at work. The officers were waiting to testify at a hearing in Martinez and I was an emotional wreck. They took care of me as I waited for someone from my office to come get me, and they could not have treated me better if I were their own mother. I will never forget that day, and have since then felt a special affinity and gratitude to Richmond PD. I was heartbroken when I learned of Brad's accident late Saturday night, and went to John Muir. Because of the late hour, I could not get in to pay my respect to Brad's family, but was able to talk to some of his co-workers. I have prayed for solace for his wife and children, his parents, other family members, and his department during this difficult time.

May Brad's spirit continue to soar and his memory continue to inspire. Even in death, he made a final gift of life by being an organ donor. What a wonderful legacy he left in a life well-lived.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Brad gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 7, 2008.
