Bless those who mourn, eternal God,
with the comfort of your love
that they may face each new day with hope
and the certainty that nothing can destroy
the good that has been given. May their memories become joyful,
their days enriched with friendship,
and their lives encircled by your love.
Amen.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Robert Douglas and the members of the Oklahoma City Police Dept., and most especially to Robert.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sgt. Douglas died.

To his family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I hope you will receive the same support.
I hope that you have received that support in the last five years. It makes the unbearable less torturous.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Robert gave to his community and the citizens of Oaklahoma, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 28, 2008.
