Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Nathaniel Taylor, Jr.

My Dearest Heart Felt Condolence To Nathan's (that's what me and his Mom called him) Family:
Words can not express the hurt and anger I am feeling. We shared both good and bad times together. We got through it. I am so humble and thankful to say I(we) learned through our trial and error. We shared a special place in each other's heart. When I received the call at 0550 hours, I never thought I would be writing a Reflection today or saying farewell. At the end of the day, "Thank you for the time we shared, the friendship, compassion, dedication, professionalism, loving spirt and kidness". Thanks for my coffee and bagel you brought me when I came back to Homan Square. Tell my Mom, Momma Taylor and Uncle Ellie I said "Hi" and "I miss them dearly". Take Care Nathan aka Sugar Bear...
P.S. Don't eat too much butter beans and smoke turkey tails... Always Baby Girl

God's peace to the family of Officer Taylor. My fiance is an officer with CPD as is many other special friends, and I pray for their safety on a daily basis. Never is their enough gratitude for the unselfish sacrifice these officers do for the citizens of this city. I can never imagine the pain that you are experiencing now, but I pray for the day when you feel God lift the heavy burden from your heart. Trust in Him.

When I first heard of the shooting before the officer's name was given, I felt bad. When I heard them say the name Nathaniel Taylor, Jr., my heart sank. Although I hadn't seen or spoken with Nate (as we called in H.S.) since high school, I couldn't help to miss the friend I once knew very well. I pray the family can find some comfort in knowing that he was much braver than most and his death was not in vain. But, in fact, his life dedicated to assuring what most of us take for granted everyday. I'm proud to say I knew him and only wish we had stayed in contact. Nathaniel Taylor, Jr., my friend, I salute you.

I didn't know you but your death saddens me greatly anyway.I don't like that this memorial site exists but how else would anyone know what great people all the officers listed here were and how much they will be missed. So rest easy now Nathaniel and know that your CPD family will make sure your family is taken care of as you along with all the other officers watch over us from above. Godspeed!

My heart is heavy as I once again have to prepare to attend the services of yet, another Chicago Police Officer, killed in the line of duty. I have been a police officer for 29 years and have had to wear a mourning band on my star more times in the last three months than I have in my whole career. I pray that no one has to ever feel the grief that has overcome the members of this police department and their families. The senseless killing of a soldier doing the job that he loved so much, is truly, the ultimate sacrifice. Take your rest Nate, God will protect you now.
As the stars shine in the heavens above, we will know that you are present for roll call. May God Bless and protect your family.
