Reflections for Sergeant Patrick C. McDonald

Lord, please guide Pat as he comes home to you. You sent him to us and he heroically completed the job you sent him to do. Please comfort his family, friends, and fellow officers. Lord, also, bless this Department as it now mourns the death of yet another officer in under one year. Grant us peace and patience and give us the faith that you will heal this Department and this City. Pat, you are now with Gary, Steve, Chuck, and Izzy. Pray for us.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of officer McDonald. His life was cut down way to early. I also want to say thank you to the NYPD for flying his sister in. I see the respect that officers have for one another and just wish that these few citizens in this great city can have the same.

I just cannot believe this has happened again. We have lost 4 police officers killed in the line of duty and 3 police officers injured in the line of duty in the last 12 months. I work close to the 24th and 25th police districts and serve breakfast/lunch to many of the his fellow officers, they are a great bunch and I honor and respect all of you. I am leaving this reflection amid tears and prayers. God have mercy. Blessed Mary pray for us!

I am physically ill and have tears in my eyes as i type this, yet another fine Phila police officer loses there life to the senseless violence on the streets of brotherly love, since my friend officer Skerski was killed over 2 year’s ago it seems to have gotten worse not better for the Phila PD.I have Never seen nor remembered anything like this in all my years in the city, Officers, Nazario, Liczbinsk, Cassidy and now this young man, Officer McDonald..You died doing your job but your job asks a lot more than most of us, rushing to a scene where most normal people are scared to death and running away ,you still go in,thank you officer McDonald for you service you will be sorely missed and never forgoten

To the family and friends of Officer Patrick McDonald and the members of the Philadelphia Police Dept., and most especially to Patrick.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer McDonald was tragically killed. I know that your department must be deeply affected by the loss of three dedicated officers within a span of five months.

To Officer McDonald's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support.

It makes the unbearable less torturous. When the killers of each fallen officer murders our loved ones, it has a devastating impact on all who loved and cared for them. I pray for your solace, but I also pray for justice for the victims/heroes and each of their families, friends and co-workers. I also send a special prayer for the physical and emotional healing of the other officer wounded in the incident.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Patrick gave to his community and the citizens of Pennsylvania, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 23, 2008.
